Is It Not a Participation in the Body and Blood of Christ?

Sunday morning I got to spend some time with one of the OCIA groups.
They are adults of various ages journeying together in faith to prepare to become fully initiated Catholics.
We talked about the topic of Christian Morality. The resource we used described a simple formula in making Christian and moral decisions.
S.T.O.P.
S = Search out information about the decision.
T = Think about the consequences of the decision.
O = Others’ opinions and thoughts are important in making a decision.
P = Pray when making a decision.
We are blessed by the beautiful truth of our Catholic faith that we are not created to live it alone.
The “O” in S.T.O.P. is so important in decision making and in living our faith – talk with others.
Grow in faith with others.
Worship and praise God at Mass with others.
Hearing thoughts of the different people in that group was awesome, and their kindness in listening to me was awesome.
We are part of a Body…Jesus’ living Body, the Church.
This coming weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy
Body and Blood of Christ.
This is a great mystery of our faith, the bread and wine becoming the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass.
Look at the words of Saint Paul in the Second Mass Reading:
Brothers and sisters: The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17
Notice the words Saint Paul uses to describe the Blood and Body of Christ – a participation in.
We are not meant to be spectator disciples, watching life go on around us.
We are not meant to be independent disciples, living our faith alone.
Through the Holy Body and Blood of Christ, we participate together in living our faith.
Through the Holy Body and Blood of Christ, we are many united as one.
As you receive the Holy Body and Blood of Christ this coming weekend, be blessed by this truth of our Catholic faith – we are called to participate in living our faith together.
If you are on the faith journey of preparing to receive the Holy Body and Blood of Christ, be blessed through the truth that you are not alone.
Though many, we are one!
