During Summertime...

...Wisdom Comes

It’s summertime.

Mornings are cool and days are hot.

Evenings are perfect for sitting on porches or in backyards.

The streets are less crowded with schools being on break.

Strawberries, watermelon and corn on the cob taste yummy.

This is my favorite time of year.

Last week I was at an afternoon wedding.

I met the bride just after she was born – she was the first newborn I had held in my life. Now she’s married.

Her 93-year-old grandmother was there with a heart full of love watching her get married.

Later at the reception I was talking with the bride’s grandmother, and she said that she hoped the happy couple would share over 60 years of love together like she and her husband had.

I was struck by how she said, “over 60 years of love”, not that she hopes they’d have a happy life or prosperous life, but a life of love.

God said, "Ask something of me and I will give it to you." 1 Kings 3:5

In this coming Sunday’s First Mass Reading, God tells young King Solomon to ask Him for whatever he wants, and He will give it to him.

Wealth?

Health?

Power?

No. King Solomon asks God for wisdom as a young king.

My friend’s grandmother simply asks God to bless her granddaughter’s marriage with years of love.

That is beautiful, simple wisdom.

Maybe that’s why I like summertime. To me it’s a simpler time, not all complicated with all the schedules and fast pace.

God is saying to us, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.”

What is your answer?

Be blessed through God’s Care!
