We had Trunk or Treat this past Sunday and I saw many different costumes of superheroes, Disney characters, and other characters I didn’t know.

I also saw a few first-responders costumes and families all in costumes of a theme together. There were scary zombies and witches too.

It is fun to dress in a costume for Halloween.

It can get us thinking about superpowers we would like to have, or what we would like to be “when we grow up.”

On Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints.

What kind of people were they?

What kind of person do you strive to be?

What kind of dad or mom are you?

What kind of person do you strive to be at work?

What kind of person do you teach your kids to be at school?

What kind of sister or brother are you to your siblings?

What kind of daughter or son do you strive to be to your parents?

What kind of friend are you?

What kind of disciple of Jesus do you strive to be?

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them…

Matthew 5:1-2

In this coming Sunday’s Gospel Jesus teaches us the Beatitudes. 

As His disciples (followers) here is what Jesus teaches us to Be:

Blessed are the poor in spirit ~ depend on God.
Blessed are they who mourn ~ grieve with your heart open to divine comfort.
Blessed are the meek ~ have gentleness, patience, and self-control under God’s guidance.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness ~ crave God’s justice and truth.
Blessed are the merciful ~ extend forgiveness, compassion, and kindness.
Blessed are the clean of heart ~ have sincere, loyal, and pure motives toward God.
Blessed are the peacemakers ~ work to restore harmony, reconcile conflicts, and bring peace.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness ~ endure

opposition, insults, or hardships for following Jesus and doing what is right.
 
As we celebrate our saints, let’s ask them to pray for us as we strive to be all that Jesus teaches us to be.
