Do We Know and Hear Jesus' Voice?

Sunday we had our First Holy Communion Retreat.
Somehow the team of Catechists and I lost a bit of control of the rotation of four large groups of families, and it got a bit crazy.
I looked over and saw a little boy had gotten separated from his parents.
I could see fear start to come into his eyes as he realized he was not near them.
I walked over to him asking if he had got separated from his parents and reassured him they were still here and we’d find them in a second.
It was a bit loud in the West Hall where we were standing with all the families there.
The boy looked up at me and said he just heard his mom call his name and started to move away from me.
I didn’t hear anything.
I kept my eyes on him to make sure he reunited with his parents, still not hearing anyone calling his name or seeing them.
Sure enough, he maneuvered his way through the crowd of families and into his parent’s arms.
Dads and moms, you know your child’s voice.
There could be many children around but when you hear your child call, “Mom!” or “Dad!” you know their voice.
Your kids know your voice, like the boy yesterday.
There can be lots of people around, but if you call your daughter or son’s name, they hear you.
That little boy and his parents brought this coming Sunday’s Gospel to life for me.
Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
Jesus knows every single one of our voices.
When we call out to Him, He hears and knows exactly who is calling Him.
Is the opposite true?
Do we know Jesus so well that we recognize His voice when He calls out to us?
Do we hear as He guides us in life and follow Him?
Sometimes all the “noise” of life gets loud for me and I think I can’t hear Jesus or I let other things get in the way of following Him.
I like the reminder that little boy gave me Sunday!
Many blessings to all mothers and Godmothers out there as we head to Mother’s Day!
May Mother Mary lift you all to her Son in her prayers.
Continued Easter blessings!
