I Could See the Truth at Funerals and Baptisms

God is Present in Each Moment and Knows Us

Last Wednesday I went to the Funeral Mass for a 95-year-old friend.

It began with her son giving a eulogy, telling us many things about his mom.

At lunch afterwards a slideshow played with images of her life over 95 years.

Last Friday I went to the Funeral Mass for a 31-year-old friend.

It began with eulogies given by his mom and dad, telling us about their son.

Pictures of him at different ages with his huge smile were on all the tables and around the hall for lunch afterwards.

Last Saturday I went to the Baptism of three children who are autistic.

Their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and Godparents surrounded them with love.

At each of these life experiences I could really feel God’s loving presence with us.

Both of my friends who passed away were faith-filled people.

At their Funerals it was said in the eulogies that they are Home with God now and the priests talked about them in their Heavenly Home in their homilies.

The three children who were Baptized have autism and are nonverbal.

Will they be able to make it through the Baptism?

How were they going to be as water is poured on them and when they are anointed with oil?

God’s loving presence filled the church. The children were so beautiful and calm as they were Baptized. Their parents seemed more at peace by the time it was over…filled with God’s love.

Even all the hairs of your head are counted. Matthew 10:30

I could see the truth of that verse in this coming Sunday’s Gospel reading in the Funeral Masses and the Baptism I experienced last week.

God is present in each moment and knows us each so well that He can give us the exact number of hairs on our head.

From the beginning of our life, when many of us are Baptized, to our death and all the days in between, fear not, God is with us in every moment.

Be blessed in every moment!
