Being More Like the Holy Family

We are going to celebrate Christmas in a few days – God loving us so much that He became one of us, the Christ Child born on Christmas day.
Jesus was born into the family of Mary and Joseph.
Remember, Jesus was both human and divine, not just divine.
He needed the love of Mary and Joseph just like we all need the love of a mom and dad.
The Holy Family went through challenges just like our families do.
As Christmas comes and we gather with family or with friends who are family to us, let’s imagine the Holy Family and their gatherings.
Amidst the joy was there a bit of tension?
Did a person dominate the conversation?
Was there a person doing most of the preparation feeling like some help would be appreciated?
Were some family members unable to come?
This coming Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
The words of Saint Paul in the Second Reading at Mass are a beautiful guide for us in how to be with our family.
As we gather to celebrate Christmas, let Saint Paul’s words guide us in being more like the Holy Family.
Brothers and sisters:
Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.
And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.
And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body.
And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:12-17
Christmas blessings!
