Who Do You Serve?

After sitting and reading this coming Sunday’s Mass Readings to begin praying and asking the Holy Spirit to tell me what to write to you, I’m struck right away by a quote in the First Reading:

Joshua addressed all the people: “If it does not please you to serve the LORD, decide today whom you will serve…. As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

This past year we have been in many different households, and many have been in our own household through Zoom. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic we have had to use Zoom for school classes, work meetings, Faith Formation Sessions, and “get-togethers” with friends and family.

City Bible Church: Sacramento, CA > April 20, 2020

I felt honored during last season’s Faith Formation Sessions as I saw families at their dinning room tables, living rooms, or all on mom and dad’s bed. You were letting us into your homes. Same with work meetings, I felt honored to connect with each other from our homes. I could see crosses on the walls of some, family portraits on others, and fun Disney characters on the bedroom walls of kids.

The Scripture verse above from this coming Sunday’s First Reading makes me wonder if you could tell that my household serves the Lord by what you see behind and around me on Zoom or if you literally came over. My household is just me and I serve the Lord. I hope it shows within the walls of my home and through me.
