The Cross

I have a cross in my pocket pretty much every day. I have cross necklaces, cross rings and bracelets. In my living room I have a collection of crosses from around the world on my wall. I see crosses hanging from people's rear view mirrors in their cars. Many people have a cross tattoo of some sort.

On Good Friday we remember Jesus being nailed to the cross, hanging on it for three hours and eventually dying. This Good Friday is different. The people of the world are suffering the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of people have died. Thousands more are sick. The rest of us are under a Stay at Home Order. Fear, anxiety and grief fill the world.

Several years ago Matthew Kelly began his book, Rediscovering Catholicism with a story. Click here to hear the story and be amazed at how it connects what we are going through today and the sacrifice God made through the cross: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seBdKiM14ws  God gave us His only Son, Jesus who was sacrificed on the cross to save us. What profound love.

Find a cross in your home - one hanging on a wall, a cross necklace or if you don't have any, draw one. Place it on your At Home Altar and gather before it as a family or stand before it if you live alone. Think about God's deep love for you and the sacrifice of His Son on that cross for you. Venerate or honor your cross by genuflecting or bowing before it. Let that deep love fill you. Click here to close your prayer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_Ouoh1Uk2k

The cross...let the love it brought us stop you in your tracks every time you see one.
