Remember as a child the dreaded time at recess or lunch when all were lined up for two “team captains” to choose their team. As they each took a turn and your name wasn’t called…ugh. And then, you heard your name – thank God! Maybe you were one of the kids that was chosen first and that felt great!
Have you gone to a job interview and learned many people were applying for the job you were applying for? And then you got that call – you were chosen!
And love. I’ve heard so many men and women tell me that they can’t believe their spouse chose them when I ask how they met.
Don’t you love what it feels like to be chosen?
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name He may give you. John 15:16
In this coming Sunday’s Gospel, I am struck by Jesus telling us that He chose us. Then He appointed us to go and bear fruit that will remain. That feeling of being chosen for a team as a kid, for a job, or by someone to share life with…this Gospel gives me that feeling and then some!
Jesus goes on to say that we are chosen, appointed to bear fruit that remains, so that whatever we ask the Father in His name, the Father will give us. What?! I forget this incredible gift from Jesus. I hope my work serving all of you through Faith Formation bears fruit that will remain. I hope time with my little nephew and niece of telling stories of our faith bears fruit that will remain. I forget to ask God for things, trusting in Jesus’ words here that God will give me whatever I need. I am grateful for the reminder.
Continued Easter blessings to you of remembering that Jesus has intentionally chosen you!
Trust that He is true to His word...whatever you ask the Father in His name the Father will give you.
