Out of Love for God and Our Neighbor

Our Elementary Faith Formation Sessions began yesterday, and it was so very great to see so many families in person! I hope you all know what blessings you are to us and to each other in this parish community. These are tough times, and we need each other’s smiles, prayers, and kindnesses.

This past week many workplaces had deadlines of getting vaccinated or people could not go to work. There had been such fear and anger around for some around getting a COVID-19 vaccination, and even violence in some workplaces. I keep praying. I look to God for His wisdom and guidance.

Moses spoke to the people, saying: "Fear the LORD, your God, and keep, throughout the days of your lives, all his statutes and commandments which I enjoin on you, and thus have long life. Deuteronomy 6:2

I read this coming Sunday’s First Reading and I heard God’s wisdom through the words. Moses came down the mountain with the Commandments God had given Him for us. Above all we are to “fear the Lord our God”, which means respect the Lord our God and what He teaches us. Doing that and following the Commandments will give us life, long life.

I do respect the Lord. And in following the Commandments, I respect and honor Him through the first five, and I respect and honor my fellow human beings through the last five.

For me, I know God wants me to love myself and my neighbor. I got vaccinated.

And for me, I know God wants me to honor His presence in everyone around me. I got vaccinated. The wisdom of God I hear in the words of Scripture push me from fear of the unknown to trusting as I do what’s best for the Common Good. I humbly share with you how I’m navigating my fears and anxieties through prayer. I hope you can discern God’s wisdom for you and your family.
