My dear Parishioners,
As we continue to live through the corona virus pandemic, we understand that social distancing and staying at home are very important for avoiding worst-case scenarios. In the current situation, beside the threat of the spread of corona
virus, our country is now facing another kind of virus, the virus of hatred and violence that is being played out on the streets of our cities around the country. Many things have been said already about injustice and inequality here in a land of democracy and of freedom. I know, what the gospel says about all of us that we need to hear again and again. That we are all God’s children and that we are all considered precious to Him. And most especially, we are made in the likeness and image of God. In God’s eyes we are all equal, and everyone is given the same opportunity to receive His grace, His peace and His love. Let us pray for the grace that God may bring out goodness and positive results from these sad realities happening around us. We need to affirm our belief in the power of God that even in all this negativity God is in charge!
At this point, may I share with you some of the things that my parish leaders’ team and I have done to first draw a safety plan for our church as prerequisite before opening our doors. In the archdiocesan directives every parish that is ready to open its doors for private prayers and visitation and for public celebration of Sunday Masses must submit a parish safety plan for the reopening of the church to the Regional Bishop, Most Reverend Robert Barron, of Santa Barbara Region.
The most important part of the plan and most needed factor in the reopening of the church to ensure every person is safe, is to have a pool of volunteers to assist us for the weekend masses. I am appealing to the young men and women of our parish and any healthy older parishioners to come forward and sign-up as volunteers to assist us in greeting and ushering people as well as to help in disinfecting chairs and pews after every mass on weekends. Once we have a pool of volunteers organized, then we will train them so that they know what to do and how to 
follow the protocols to keep everyone safe. We will rely heavily on these volunteers to come forward because if we have enough of them then we can readily open the church for weekend masses. I am asking the different parish ministries to encourage their members to volunteer in this most needed parish ministry, to greet and screen each person coming into the main doors of our church and to help keep the church disinfected after each mass and have it ready for the next group.
I want to take this opportunity on behalf of all the parishioners of St. Peter Claver to congratulate Fr. Louis Sung in celebrating his first year Anniversary of priestly ordination last June 1st.
What a terrific year of journey that he has experienced as a newly ordained priest to go through this unprecedented time of our lives. I hope that these unique circumstances may have given him great lessons in life.
So, let us thank God for the blessing to have Fr. Louis as our associate pastor and let us thank him for his loving service to our parish community.

Mis Queridos Feligreses,
En lo que continuamos viviendo la pandemia del Coronavirus, entendemos la importancia del distanciamiento social y el permanecer en casa para evitar empeorar la situación. Y en la situación actual nuestro país está enfrentando otro tipo de virus, el virus del odio y violencia que se ha derramado en las calles de nuestras ciudades en todo el país. Mucho ya se a dicho sobre la injusticia y la desigualdad aquí en la tierra de la democracia y libertad. Yo sé lo que dice el Evangelio de todos nosotros y lo necesitamos escuchar una y otra vez. Y es que todos somos hijos de Dios y que somos preciosos para Él. Y especialmente, que somos creados a la imagen de Dios. En los ojos de Dios todos somos iguales, y todos tenemos la misma oportunidad de recibir Su gracia, paz, y Su amor. Oremos que la gracia de Dios traiga resultados buenos y positivos de esta realidad tan triste que está sucediendo a nuestro rededor. Necesitamos reafirmar nuestra creencia en el poder de Dios y que a pesar de la negatividad Dios está en control!
Ahora quiero compartir con ustedes lo que mi equipo de líderes y yo hemos hecho para volver abrir de forma segura la parroquia. Siguiendo los requisitos de la Arquidiócesis hemos hecho un plan de seguridad, detallando cómo se abrirá la iglesia de forma segura primero para oración y visitas privadas, y eventualmente para celebrar Misas dominicales. Este plan se someterá para aprobación por el Obispo Robert Barron, de la región de Santa Bárbara.
El factor más importante del plan es la seguridad de todos y de tener suficientes voluntarios para asistir en la Misas de los fines de semana. Les pido a todos los jóvenes y feligrés adultos de sana salud que se apunten para ayudar en bienvenir a las personas y desinfectar los asientos después de cada misa. De esto depende la reapertura de la iglesia para la celebración de Misa los fines de semana. Cuando haya un número suficiente de voluntarios habrá un entrenamiento. Invito a todos los ministros que animen as sus miembros a ser voluntarios.
Quiero tomar esta oportunidad de parte de todos los feligreses de St. Peter Claver felicitar a Padre Louis Sung en celebración del primer aniversario de su Ordenación Sacerdotal esté pasado 1ro de junio. Qué año más increíble que ha pasado como nuevo sacerdote atravesando estos momentos nunca antes vistas. Espero que estas circunstancias únicas le hayan dejado valiosas lecciones en su vida. Hay que darle gracias a Dios por la bendición de tener a Padre Louis como nuestro pastor asociado y hay que darle gracias por su bondadoso servicio a nuestra comunidad parroquial.
