Respect Life Ministry

The Respect Life Ministry will focus attention on the many ways respect for basic human rights are being violated in our society. The legalization of abortion and the threat of legalized euthanasia are primary in these violations. This ministry provides services, activities and points of contact.

Giving Tree

St. Peter Claver's Giving Tree provides Christmas gifts for individuals who are less fortunate than ourselves. Children, senior citizens and special-need teens and adults benefit from this annual event. Our generous parishioners donate each year over 1,000 gifts.

Bethany

A Bethany is a gathering after a funeral for fellowship and love. Parishioners provide the food, set up and clean the hall and staff the kitchen. This allows the family and friends of the deceased a place to gather, partake of food and visit. Volunteers are needed to provide food and work in the kitchen.

Bereavement Ministry

Jesus said, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." The Bereavement Ministry Team contacts the family after a death has occurred, conducts the Vigil service, assists the family on the day of the Funeral or Memorial Mass and does follow-up with the bereaved after the services.

Apostle's Kitchen

Apostle's Kitchen provides a hot meal to the homeless people of Simi Valley once a month in our parish hall. Volunteers donate and prepare the food, serve the food, and clean up the hall. The dinner is held the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm.

Spreading the Warmth

Spreading the Warmth meets on the third Monday of each month (ecept during the summer months). We crochet and knit items to donate to charities. Some of our recipients are: Apostle's Kitchen, Kaps for Kids, the Preemie Ward at local hospitals, and the Bereavement Ministry. We also make welcome gifts for the newly baptized, the newly married and new parishioners. Donations of skeins of yarn are always appreciated.

Prayer Network

God commanded us to pray for one another. This ministry has committed to God's request. We are a group of people who pray for the serious needs of our parish. A parishioner can participate from the convenience of home. Serious prayer requests are communicated to the parish office or to the Prayer Network coordinator. In turn the coordinator will contact the Prayer Network members who are committed to praying for these special needs.

Detention Ministry

There are currently many different opportunities to participate in Detention Ministry throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The opportunities include visiting adults and adolescents in prisons, jails and detention camps. There are also opportunities to assist and provide support without visiting those who are incarcerated (Kairos Retreat weekends, Get On The Bus program, etc).
